Here's What They're Saying About Alan Jackson's Latest Single, Written By Adam Wright

Loading...

Taste of Country gave the single 4.5 stars and had this to say in the review:
Alan Jackson says fans are comparing his new single "So You Don’t Have to Love Me Anymore" to the George Jones’ hit "He Stopped Loving Her Today." While it’s far too early to enshrine this Jay Knowles and Adam Wright written ballad, Jackson’s dark and personal performance rides the same rail Jones laid down 30-plus years ago.

"So You Don’t Have to Love Me Anymore" is Jackson’s most vulnerable love song since the critically acclaimed but commercially ignored "A Woman’s Love" and "Like Red on a Rose" in 2006. There’s palpable pain in his expressions of love for a woman who no longer wants to reciprocate.

“I’ll be the bad guy / I’ll take the black eye / When I walk out you can slam the door / I’ll be the S.O.B. / If that’s what you need from me / So you don’t have to love me anymore,” Jackson sings over an acoustic guitar and gentle piano to begin the song. Old wounds are left exposed for everyone to see.

“I will keep all those memories of the good times / Yeah there were some good times / So when you think of you and me / They won’t even cross your mind,” he adds during a bare-bones but effective chorus.

Wright (Jackson’s nephew and one-half of the country duo the Wrights) and Knowles are known but not yet superstar songwriters in Nashville. Most recently, they teamed up to write "No Truck, No Boat, No Girl," an album cut from Joe Nichols‘ latest album. Their mastery of word economy on this Jackson song may fill out their writing calendars in 2012 however. The best songs always allow a listener to fill in the spaces between the words, and Jackson’s patient performance leaves plenty of room to do that.

“If the wine you’re drinkin’ / Leads you to thinkin’ / That you want what we had before / Girl you can call me / I’ll let it ring and ring / So you don’t have to love me anymore.” "So You Don’t Have to Love Me Anymore" is the perfect pairing of song and artist.

My Kind Of Country says this about the single:
By far Alan’s best single since 2004’s superlative ‘Monday Morning Church’, I don’t know if it will revive his declining fortunes at radio, but I certainly hope it does. And while it’s far too soon to be talking of songs of the year for 2012, this sets the bar really high.

The single has already entered the Billboard Chart and the video has been added into rotation on CMT and GAC. You can check out the video below...

Reviews of "No Truck, No Boat, No Girl" from Joe Nichols new album

jn

Songs like the happy-go-lucky “No Truck, No Boat, No Girl” and the rockin’ “The More I Look” are light and fun in their approach, while others like “I Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You” (featuring stirring background harmonies from Alison Krauss and Dan Tyminski) burn with an understated intensity. These complexities, matched with Joe’s approachable voice, cut to the essence of the project and help listeners get to know him all over again through his candor and willingness to be a bit introspective.

Reading the title, you’re thinking it’s gonna be a Kenny Chesney, ‘Caribbean-cowboy’ song. Nope. Great story song about a guy who makes one mistake in life and the next thing you know, “no truck, no boat, no girl.” If you’ve had a bad 2011, this could be the song to sing out the year with.

“No Truck, No Boat, No Girl” tells the tale of a guy who’s luck has turned for the worse. However, he doesn’t sound all too intent upon finding that high paying job that will bring all the toys back into his yard. With its laidback vocal, it has all the desperation and frustration of a day when the fish weren’t biting particularly well.

From “She’s Just Like That” to “No Truck, No Boat, No Girl” or “How I Wanna Go” to his current single “Take It Off” there is not one part of life that this album doesn’t touch on. Each song in this grouping is perfectly written, with awesome music and a voice that will melt your heart!
